For Us By Us: Creating a Global Black Feminist LIS Framework

Peer-Review Session | Thursday, June 12th, 2025 | 1:15pm – 2:15pm EST

The ACRL Framework for Information Literacy maintains interlocking structures of violence in its approach to information seeking. This presentation explores how Black Feminism is essential for creating a reparative LIS framework to reflect on, disrupt, and dream beyond hegemonic power within libraries. It posits that through 5 frames a Global Black Feminist LIS Framework (GBFLF) 1) addresses the lived realities of colonialism and white supremacy, 2) names how production of information is power and labor, and 3) prioritizes imagination and community as essential to sustaining liberatory information practices and radical librarianship.
