Bridging Borders, Sharing Knowledge — 2025

Bridging Borders, Sharing Knowledge: Case Studies from LACLI’s International Librarian Collaboration

Workshop | Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 | 12:00pm – 1:00pm EST

While Western academia embraces subscription-based library resources, Latin America has emerged as a leader in the open access movement. This presentation explores LACLI (lacli.info), a multilingual index of freely accessible resources for Latin American, Caribbean, Latinx, and Iberian studies. Built by Brazilian, Mexican, and the U.S. students and librarians, LACLI rejects Western marketization and promotes equitable access to information. The presentation begins by exploring the project’s origins and its technical specifications. From there, two students will share their work as indexers followed by a librarian’s approaches to teaching with LACLI. The session will conclude with an interactive workshop in which attendees will test out different approaches to teaching with the project.

[This discussion will be recorded.]
