Session Descriptions

Lightning talks are fast-paced, 10-minute presentations that provide a brief overview of an idea, issue, or project. These energetic presentations are a great way for attendees to learn about a new topic and are followed by 5 minutes of audience Q&A.

Presentations are 20-minute deeper dives into a specific idea, issue, or project. Attendees can expect to learn more context around the topic of the presentation, often through concrete examples or lessons learned. Individual presentations are followed by 10 minutes of audience Q&A.

Workshops are 45-minute interactive presentations designed to provide opportunities for hands-on participation. Workshop attendees should be prepared to engage in activities such as group exercises, live demos, problem-solving, or individual guided practice, with presenters addressing questions and comments throughout the session.

Facilitated discussions are 45-minute conversations focused on a specific project, idea, or reading where the audience is encouraged to guide the content. Attendees should be prepared to contribute to these interactive discussions by sharing ideas, experiences, comments, and questions, which will be addressed by facilitators throughout the session.

Peer-review sessions begin with a 20-minute presentation of an emerging idea or early research findings that is followed by 30 minutes of critical feedback from attendees. Participants in these sessions should be prepared to ask generative questions and offer critical yet collegial suggestions for improvement to help the presenter refine their work.
